My Really Large, Huge Tote

I stock up on patterns when JoAnn has a 5/$5 sale.  I've had this McCall's MP377 Tote Pattern for a few years.  I finally decided to use it to make myself a tote to take to Hawaii.  I wanted something with a lot of pockets to store stuff for the 8 hour flight.  And boy, does this little number have pockets!  Six on the outside and 4 on the inside.  And then there's a removable organizer that fits inside that has 7 more pockets.  So, that's 17 pockets if you lost count.  Woah.  I used Amy Butler fabric (my first time!) and I love how it turned out!

Except for how it's like 3 times as big as I thought it would be.  Srsly, it's enormous.  You could easily fit a 3-year-old in there and carry her around.

And then I had to explain to Daniel why I had to order designer fabric and why it was so much better than the stuff from Joann.  And how $60 for 5 yards of fabric was actually a *really* good deal.  He's such a boy. :)

I can't show you the organizer because I ran out of time to finish the edges with the (handmade!) bias tape.  And yes, a month later it's still not done.

This bag is way too big to carry around on a normal day.  So hopefully I'll have a girl one day, because I think the only way I can get away with carrying it on a daily basis is if it's a diaper bag. A really pretty, labor intensive diaper bag.

I'm linking up to these fabulous parties!

I love the bag. I'm sure you will find a use for it. I find myself using larger bags to carry around small portable craft projects. Thanks for visiting my blog too.

I notice your profile said you were in Nashville. I live in the White House area.

It is beautiful! You did an amazing job. I find that I appreciate the hard/labor intensive projects a lot more down the road. As a mother of two I can tell you there isn't a thing as a bag that is too big :)

Morning Sunny!
LOVE your tote! And what an awesome job you did. I can see the match up you did with the large pattern in front with part being a pocket. Wow!

Great bag for the flea market.
Cheers!
