Now Taking Name-inations

Remember the Pattern Challenge?  And how I was supposed to make 4 dresses for my friend Jillian* to take to Haiti?  And how I only made one so far?  Have I mentioned what a procrastinator I am? No? Well, I am!  I needed to deliver 4 dresses to Jillian this past Friday, so on Monday I put my thinking cap on.

My real goal in the Pattern Challenge was to try something new, with only the materials I had on hand.  I had a bunch of men's button down shirts (Daniel always rips holes in the elbows, rendering them useless to him).  I also had little time to get 3 dresses made.  I've seen plenty of variations around the craft blogosphere of men's shirt recons, but some of them were complicated and I wanted to punch it up with some girly fabric.  And I needed to be able to whip it up lickity-split.  So I came up with this, which takes about an hour:

Part men's shirt, part girly print.  Quick and easy dress.  And cute, if I do say so myself.

Of course, everything is cuter when you have a beautiful model!  Contessa did a great job.  Thanks to Tracie for the toddler loan! :)

Contessa did not want to take the dress off.  Which, of course made my day!

So now is where I need your help.  What should I name this dress?  Once we find a name, I'll post a tutorial.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

* I almost forgot to mention that Jillian, Hunter and their mission team are on a plane to Haiti as I type this.  Please keep them in your prayers!

I say you call it "The Contessa." It's like a consolation prize for Contessa for having to take off the dress.

And WHEN did Contessa get so BIG? Oh my word.

I agree, and oh my gosh, I love the dress! You're a genius! Now I know what to do with all those old shirts of my husbands. Sorry daddy, your baby needed a new dress.

Oh, that dress looks so sweet on her. Maybe Daddy Sweetshirt is a name for it. Because it belongs on a sweet little girl and it comes from a daddy's shirt. I'm not creative - but it came to mind. I can't wait for the tutorial. I want to try it!

I can't sew so I'm amazed when anyone does. Very cute dress and a very sweet model. What a great idea to repurpose a man's shirt and turn it into something adorable. Love your big tote too. I'll be backing a carry-on for our trip to the States and it will be filled with a book, a magazine, snacks and yarn to keep me busy. :) Your porch looks like a great place to relax. Enjoy and have a great week. Tammy

I love it! You could call it "Daddy's Girl." I hope you're right about the quick part.
