I'm going to let you in on a little (not-so-well-kept) secret. Sometimes, as crafters, our super fabulous, awesome ideas don't always translate into super fabulous, awesome projects. Sometimes, they turn into massive craft fails. That is how this project started out. True story. I'm not going to share the fail part with you today (though I might do that later). Instead, let's take a look the project inspired by the fail!
{almost} No-Sew Embellished Flip Flops
You know my M.O. by now - this project took less than 10 minutes and under $5.
What you will need:
a pair of flip flops (mine are Old Navy - $2 on clearance)
about 1/4 yard of fabric, ripped into four 2" x 44" strips
After you've ripped your fabric into strips, stretch those strips a couple times to make them as long as possible.
Feed two of the fabric strips through the toe of the flip flop until it's about halfway.
Pull the strips from the left side over the top of the strap to the right side.
Then pull the strips from the right side over the top of the strap to the left side.
You will first be working with the two strips that are now on the left side (tuck the others out of the way for now). Take one strip and lay it across the strap.
Pull the other strip over the first strip...
and tuck it BEHIND the strap, then pull the end back out and over the first strip. You are tying a knot around the strap. If you've ever made a hemp necklace at camp - this is the same concept!
Now tighten it up!
Repeat the process in reverse. Always keep the top strip on the top and the bottom strip on the bottom.
When you get to the end of the strap, snip the excess fabric.
With a needle & thread, stitch the ends together. If you REALLY hate sewing, I suppose you could try hot gluing the ends together.
You are finished! Wear them just like this, or...
Add some flowers...
or add some bling!
If you make a pair, I'd love for you to share them over at my Facebook page! :)
