Button Frame

When decorating the nursery, I really tried to be as thrifty as possible, using things I already had on hand.  This frame (inspiration here) is a great example of thrifty - I didn't have to buy a thing!

I used a frame  that I'd picked up at a thrift store last year (you may remember it from this post).  I used paint leftover from the hairbow organizer, buttons from my stash and muslin from my grandma's stash.  It was a super quick project and I love how it turned out!

Nursery In Progress No Longer!

And we're done!  I'm SO happy with how the nursery turned out!  I used some vintage floral sheets I had for inspiration.  If you're looking for a way to decorate while keeping costs down, this is a great way to do it!  About 6 yards of fabric for $2-4.  You can't beat that!

I made the curtain swag above the crib and hung it with some knobs found at Hobby Lobby.  Curtain swag, name bunting, ruffled curtain, lovey blanket, crib sheets and crib skirt (inspiration) all were made using vintage floral sheets.

Most of the stuff on the walls I painted/distressed.  The little rocking chair is one I had as a wee one, with a new coat of paint.

The quilt on the back of the glider was my baby quilt, made by my grandmother.

I need to fill the frames with pics!  I painted the "E".  Doll, bunny and piggy bank were mine.

That dress is what we'll bring the baby home in!

Nursery In Progress: Name Bunting

Little by little, I'm getting things ticked off my to do list.  This weekend, I'll be working on getting everything up on the walls.  And by "I", of course I mean "Daniel".  :)

I made this to go over the crib using the same fabrics as the curtain.  I've actually used these in quite a few other things in the room.

Hopefully, I'll have a bunch of new pics to share next week!

Nursery In Progress: Ruffled Curtain

When I saw this ruffled curtain, I knew I had to somehow incorporate it into my house.  When we found out Little One was a girl, I had the perfect spot!

I'm going with a shabby chic theme in the nursery and trying my best to use what I've got on hand.  Luckily, I have a nice little collection of vintage sheets (some of which are now fat quarters listed in my shop).  I mixed and matched and added and edited until I was happy.

I used my ruffler foot for the first time.  I broke my first two needles.  We got in our first fight, the ruffler foot and I, but we made up.  I used four different vintage sheets (which have so far also found their way into a crib skirt, bunting, crib sheets and a lovey) and added in some eyelet from my Grandma's stash.

It's a little on the narrow side, but there's no fixing that now, so I'm just going to pretend it fits! :)

Keep Those Bows Straight!

I've been drowning in bows for the past few weeks!  I made over 400 bows and clips to put in a consignment sale this weekend.  Of course, I had to save a few for Ellie!  And by a few, I mean a few of each color.  Needless to say, I had a little mountain of bows and nowhere to store them.  Or nowhere cute and organized to store them.  Now, you know that just wouldn't do!

I started collecting frames a while ago, my ideas for their use evolving over time.  I finally had a light bulb moment and got down to business.  I took my favorite frame (remember seeing it here?) and made it pretty and functional.  I haven't had a chance to hang it up yet, but what you see here is more than 50 bows, all in one place with room to spare (but not much)!

No need for a hair bow organizer?  Come back next week for a more versatile version!

A Few Vintage Images

Hey there!  I've been busy lately trying to organize my tons and tons of craft supplies.  We're moving all my craft stuff from the guest bedroom to the office, so we can turn the guest bedroom into the nursery.  We find out the gender right before the new year, if all goes well!  At least I got my Christmas decorations up! :)

Since I haven't had time to really finish or photograph anything I'm working on, here are a few vintage images.  As always, feel free to use them however you please, just please don't repost them on your own blog to give away.

Little Ladies on Parade

I have gotten my hands on a bunch of really fantastic vintage greeting cards and decided to share them with you.  I apologize in advance for my lack of editing skills. :)

All of these cards are from the Nashville Flea Market.  Click on 'em to make them bigger, right click and save.  If you make anything from them, I'd love to see it!

Visit my flickr for more.  Feel free to use these images however ya want to!

Scores from my SSLFFMs

Remember how I mentioned I'd be visiting my Super Secret Location Favorite Flea Markets this past weekend?  Well, I did and here's all my loot!

The middle frame was a thrift store find, but the other two are from my SSLFFMs.  The big frame is chippy, but I like it that way. PLUS is was only $9!  There was a guy ruffling through the booth who tried to guilt me into letting him have this.  As soon as I grabbed it he was all "I was just going for that" and I was all "Sorry!"  The picture is painted right on the glass.  Not sure what I'm going to do with that.  I don't think I have the heart to chip it off, but it's not really my style.  These will all be meeting a new coat of paint soon.

I found my sewing box in blue!

So, apparently I've started a collection of these planters without really realizing it.  The one on the left was originally white and I spray painted it.  I'm pretty sure the one on the right was also spray painted, just not by me.

Cutest. Pincushion. Ever.  I paid a little more than I wanted to, but it was calling my name after I left the booth, so I had to get it.  And it was still a good deal.

From the same booth as the pincushion and sewing box, I scored these precious jars.  And she gave me one free! :)

I love the lids! (and flip flop season!)

Sweet little earrings and a milk glass candy dish.

Two of them!

Oldies but Goodies

It's been a while since I've posted some of my winnings from thrift store and flea market trips, huh?

Click on any of the pics to make them bigger.

Pink planter and floral sheet: thrift store.
Beads, Mouse House sugar bowl, flower salt & pepper shakers: flea markets (including my Super Secret Location Favorite Flea Markets - SSLFFM)

Duck (?) hook: thrift store
Dry skin: model's own

Legion of tiny mammals/birds: thrift store/flea market/SSLFFM
The tiny bird and squirrel I pried from one of those old wood knick knack things. It took a blow dryer, a butter knife and 20 minutes, but I think it was worth it. That bunny - it kinda creeps me out. He's too big and his eyes are pink. In another picture I took, he was staring. right. at you. His eyes followed you around the room. I didn't want to subject you to pink-eyed bunny nightmares, so I nixed that one.

Another Hommer Sewing Box: SSLFFM. I'm starting a collection, so far I have 3. This one, a pin cushion combo that was my grandma's and one almost identical to this one I gave away.

Hey - they're ideal for bridge prizes...

I also love old playing cards. These are from the Nashville Flea Market. I've made a few projects from them but have no idea what else to use them for (or maybe I do?).

Yay! Old boxes.

I have no idea how to play Pinochle. What makes a deck of Pinochle cards different from a regular deck?

Okay, so I've seen quite a few of these two. On the same day I got these at the flea market, my friend Caroline and I went to an estate sale. Where she scored an AWESOME Victorian sofa and we also split a china cabinet/buffet set, but that's beside the point. This house had these prints framed once in the living room and once in the bedroom. That's two of each. Who are you people?

We're off to spend Easter with my family. We will be visiting my SSLFFM, so hopefully I'll have some new stuff to share with you.

Happy Easter!!

Thrift Store Finds Find Home

I did a little sprucing up in the hall bathroom. I used to have four tealights in blue glass holders, but now:

Remember this apothecary jar I snagged for 50 cents? I put some pink lucky stars in it and stuck it on the shelf.

I found this Avon glass set at a thrift store for only $3.99! Then I saw it the very next week at the flea market for more than double that price! I felt like I dodged a bullet.
